A story from a Travel Nurse-
Many travel nurses rely on a GPS unit to help get them where they are going. I am no different. I love my GPS. I like how it shows me an instant map of where I am at. I can see the side streets before I actually get to them and know what the road ahead looks like…sharp curves etc. I really like the feature that indicates what time I am going to arrive. Now, my GPS doesn’t change time zones, so my arrival time is in Eastern Standard Time because that is what my GPS unit is set to. It amazes me how far we have come technologically. That being said, it is far from perfect. I am getting close to having owned my GPS for about a year and it hasn’t been updated yet. So, any new construction that has happened is not reflected in my GPS. This weekend I took my wife and kids to see a Toledo Mudhen’s game. The Mudhens, put on the map by Klinger from M.A.S.H., are the Detroit Tigers minor league team baseball team. The stadium was new and it was a lot of fun. But getting there with my GPS was a little hectic. My GPS told me to take I-75 South to I-280 then get off on exit 10A. No problem, I take I-75 South to I-280. Theres exit #11 so I am merging over to get off on 10A. Only one problem, there wasn’t a 10A and I was on a bridge going over water. I had to get off the next exit on the other side of the River. See, the bridge was newly constructed and my GPS was 1-year-old. So I had to back track and lost 20 minutes. So, the important message here is: Update your GPS if you plan an out of state trip and it’s been a year or so since your purchase or last update. It is worth the peace of mind to be able to count on your GPS to get you where you are going on time. Happy Travels!
